The College of Education Michigan Literacy Project (MLP) at Grand
Valley is partnering with the Grand Rapids Drive to raise money to
provide children's books to teachers in public schools.
The Grand Rapids Drive will take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce
April 1, at 7 p.m., at the DeltaPlex Arena. The Drive is reserving a
section of $10 seats and 50 percent of all $10 ticket sales will be
donated to the Michigan Literacy Project, an initiative that provides
children’s books to public schools.
Just before the game begins, Alison Orth, a first-year teacher
from Grand Rapids Public Schools, will receive a wagon full of books
for her classroom, presented by the Drive mascot. Children’s books
will also be sold during the game that can be directly donated to the
Michigan Literacy Project or purchased with a percentage of the profit
going toward MLP.
Grand Valley students will also be on the Allendale and Pew
Grand Rapids campuses handing out ticket vouchers and selling
children’s books.
