Faculty to explore tradition of artists inspiring artists
Multiple Grand Valley faculty members will discuss the tradition of
artists inspiring the work of other artists, during a special
presentation of “Artists Quoting Artists.”
“Artists Quoting Artists”
Tuesday, February 24 from
10-11:30 a.m.
Art Gallery, room 1121, Performing Arts Center,
Allendale Campus
Faculty scheduled to present include Ellen Adams, assistant
professor in the Frederik Meijer Honors College and Virginia Jenkins,
Art and Design Department chair. Jenkins will also lead participants
in a special project where they will have the opportunity to create
their own work of art.
This event is presented in conjunction with the special
exhibition, “Veracity, Distortion, Reduction: Visual Explorations by
Ed Wong-Ligda,” showcasing 15 oil-on-canvas paintings created by
Wong-Ligda during his time at Grand Valley. He will be retiring from
the university in April.
Wong-Ligda’s professional painting career dates back to the
early 1970s; he came to Grand Valley in 1996 when he was hired to
develop and coordinate the Art and Design Department’s illustration
emphasis. Two years later, he became the coordinator and primary
instructor of Illustration.
“Veracity, Distortion, Reduction” is on display in the Art
Gallery through March 20.
Wong-Ligda completed his undergraduate work in advertising
design and illustration at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles
and received a MFA in painting from the University of Tulsa.
