Connie Dang, director of Multicultural Affairs, was among the honorees at the Cesar E. Chavez Cinco de Mayo Celebration, held May 5 at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
Sebastian Maisel, assistant professor for Arabic and Middle East Studies, received funding from Georgetown University for his project, "Tribalism and Family Affairs."
Jessica Jennrich, director of the Women's Center, teamed with the Michigan ACE Women's Network to host a daylong workshop for statewide faculty and staff members interested in gender justice work.
Alexandra Locher, assistant professor of biology, received funding from Michigan Space Grant Consortium, for her project, "Future Shock: Modeling Effects of Climate Change on Woodland Jumping Mice in Northern Michigan Using Principles of Landscape Genetics."
John Weber, professor of geology, received funding from the National Aeronautics and Space Association (NASA) for his project, "NASA/MSGC: Undergraduate Fellowship (Brian Schrotenboer)."
Richard Lord, assistant professor of chemistry, receiving funding from Research Corporation for Science Advancement for his project, "Towards a Chemical Rationale for Redox-Induced Electron Transfer."
Virginia Peterson, associate professor and Geology Department chair, received funding from the National Aeronautics and Space Association (NASA) for her project: "NASA/MSGC: Undergraduate Fellowship (Karen Musser)."
Figen Mekik, professor of geology, received funding from the National Aeronautics and Space Association (NASA) for her project: "NASA/MSGC: Undergraduate Fellowship (Brittany Ward)."
Allison Metz, assistant professor of theater and program director of the ReACT! student theater group, was recently named the recipient of the 2015 Lin Wright Special Recognition Award from the American Alliance of Theatre and Education (AATE). Metz will receive the award at the national AATE conference the first week of August in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
