With sadness, Grand Valley notes the death of Anthony Parise on
December 24. He was 84.
Parise worked in the English Department at Grand Valley for 24
years, starting in fall 1968 and retiring in December 1992. His
specialization was modern poetry. An avid writer, he promoted
collegial dialogue and he edited the Grand Valley Review for
several years.
In retirement he enjoyed building and playing musical
instruments as part of his own intense study of viola da gamba. An
accomplished recorder player, Parise often performed with a group of
early music devotees in Grand Rapids.
His family plans a written memorial at a later date in lieu of a
visitation or gathering.
