A special concert will celebrate the 25-year partnership between
Grand Valley and Kingston University in the U.K. Henry E. Duitman,
director of orchestras, will conduct the Grand Valley Symphony
Orchestra with guest conductor and composer David Osbon.
The “Tribute to London” concert will be performed Thursday,
March 1, at 8 p.m. in the Louis Armstrong Theatre, Performing Arts
Center, on the Allendale Campus. The performance is open to the
public with free admission.
Osbon, from Kingston, is a composer, conductor, and academic
whose music has been performed, broadcast and recorded around the
world. His “Nelson Overture” will be included in the performance, as
well as works by Haydn, Elgar and Holst.
The concert is the first in a series of events that are part of
Osbon’s Cultural Olympics, a celebration of the 2012 London Olympic
Games through dance, music, theater, the visual arts, film and digital
innovation. During three days in July, Grand Valley, Kingston and the
Amsterdam Conservatory, will participate in a collaborative project,
Bodies in Motion, which will be broadcast via the Internet.
