The Lakers made themselves at home on their new field Saturday,
winning 83-46 over Notre Dame (Ohio), in the first home game of the season.
While it was an impressive offensive record, it wasn’t a school
record for most team points scored. In 1989, Grand Valley scored 91
points against Valparaiso. The crowd of 15,139 was the second biggest
in Lubbers Stadium history.
Saturday marked the first time fans saw the stadium
improvements, including more seats and a turf field. It was also a day
to honor President Emeritus Arend D. Lubbers, who played a major role
in advancing Grand Valley athletics during his time as president from
1969-2001.
