Two Grand Valley students have been added to the list of nine others who have been awarded prestigious Gilman Scholarships for Summer 2012 or the 2012/13 academic year.
Sarah Bierlein, from Grand Rapids, an international relations major, received a $4,000 Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Jordan. Stephanie Nelson, from Jenison, a pre-nursing major, received $5,000 to study in Costa Rica during the 2012-13 academic year.
Grand Valley is consistently among the top producers in the nation of Gilman Scholarship winners.
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is operated by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the Institute for International Education.
The deadline for students who want to apply for Winter 2013 Gilman Scholarships is September 25.
