Flags at the state Capitol are at half-staff today at the request
of Gov. Rick Snyder in remembrance of former state representative
William Jowett, who died August 15.
Mr. Jowett represented Port Huron in the House for 14 years from
1965-1979 and was a ranking member of the Appropriations Committee.
Following his legislative service he was a government relations
consultant for 25 years.
“Bill Jowett was a consummate
professional and a special friend to higher education,” said Matt
McLogan, vice president for University Relations. “His interest in,
and support for, Grand Valley was important in the university’s
formative years.”
Jowett’s son Steven is a Grand Valley
graduate and has been a long-time supporter of the Alumni Association.
Funeral services will take place Saturday in Grand Ledge.
