John Kilbourne, professor of movement science, was interviewed for a feature story by Arctic Portal in Montreal, Canada. He was also interviewed by the South Dakota State Collegian for a story on intercollegiate athletic reform.

Kurt Ellenberger, Honors College faculty member, wrote two blogs about jazz education that were featured as National Public Radio online stories.

Sketches

News and Information Services received six awards at the annual PRoof Awards ceremony, sponsored by the West Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Awards were presented to Grand Valley Magazine, Grand Valley Magazine Bookmarks website, VandenBerg documentary, GVSU-Clark LipDub, Scholarship Dinner video and Seidman Center groundbreaking media coverage.

Leah Zuber, communications specialist, was named Newcomer of the Year by the West Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

WGVU received a silver award at the annual PRoof Awards ceremony, sponsored by the West Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, for a public service campaign, “Get your Diploma. Get Your Degree.”

Sonja Johnson, executive director of the Van Andel Global Trade Center, received a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for the Michigan Export Assistance project.

John Kilbourne, professor of movement science, organized a panel, “Meaningful Education Programs for College Athletes,” at the College Sport Research Institute Conference at the University of North Carolina. He also gave a presentation, “Sami and Inuit Games,” at the International Polar Year Conference in Montreal, Canada. 

Julie Garrison, associate dean of research and instruction for University Libraries, was elected to the Association of College and Research Libraries Board of Directors.

Steve Glass, professor of movement science, Gordon Alderink, associate professor of physical therapy, and Jann-Huei Jinn, professor of statistics, wrote an article, “EMG Activation of the Vastus Medialis Oblique and Vastus Lateralis During Four Rehabilitative Exercises,” published in the Open Rehabilitation Journal.
