The Grand Valley community is mourning the death of colleague
Santiago Zapata. He was found dead in his Grand Rapids home on
Tuesday, September 25.
Zapata began working at Grand
Valley in October 1993. As the program advisor for the TRiO
Educational Talent Search program, Zapata worked with area middle
school students to prepare them for college.
Elaine Collins, dean of the College of Education, sent the
following message to faculty and staff members in the college.
“Santiago was a cornerstone of the TRiO Educational Talent Search
department, working tirelessly on behalf of students. He will be
greatly missed,” she wrote.
Funeral arrangements are still
pending. GVNow will update this story when more details are known.
