Arts at Noon series opens Wednesday

The 35th season of Grand Valley’s Arts at Noon series begins Wednesday, September 5 at noon in the Cook-DeWitt Center Auditorium with a performance by the West Michigan jazz quartet “Mind’s Eye.”

The members of Mind’s Eye are Steve Talaga, piano; Rob Smith, trumpet and saxophone; Tom Lockwood, bass; and Keith Hall, drums. They play contemporary jazz with an edge, are some of the most in-demand musicians in the Midwest and are also composers and university instructors.

Mind’s Eye has performed at the Montreux International, Detroit/Montreux/Ford, and Flint/King Cobra Jazz Festivals, among other venues. Mind’s Eye has done four recordings: Angst for the Spoiler, Seasons, Lucky 9, and Children of the Glacier.
 
There are seven Arts at Noon concerts this fall ranging from the chamber music group “Typical Music” to Beethoven’s “Kruetzer” Violin Sonata.  All of the concerts are free and open to the public.
