Juan Enriquez, one of the world's preeminent authorities on the economic and political impacts of the life sciences, will address the campus community as the keynote April commencement speaker and at a lecture on Friday, April 28.
Enriquez is the chairman and CEO of Biotechonomy LLC, a life sciences research and investment firm that he founded. He also serves as president and chief business officer for Synthetic Genomics, a company he co-founded last year.
He will lecture on "The Untied States of America" at 3 p.m. on April 28 in the Hager Auditorium in the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences. All faculty and staff members are invited. A reception will follow in the Steelcase Foundation Lecture Hall. RSVP for the event by contacting Bonnie Dawdy at (616) 331-2170 or [email protected].
Participants can park at the Seward Parking Ramp on Lake Michigan Drive and board the shuttle bus. Other parking options for the lecture will be available at the self-pay Spectrum Health parking ramp on Michigan Street; and on the first-come basis at the Crawford lot, near Michigan and College. Enriquez's latest book, Untied States, explores why, as technology advances, some countries are successful while others disappear.
Around 1,600 students are expected to participate in commencement ceremonies on Saturday, April 29, at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. The event begins at 10 a.m. and runs through noon.
