Convocation marks beginning of academic year

Grand Valley State University students, faculty and staff will mark the beginning of the academic year Friday, August 26, during Convocation at the Fieldhouse Arena on the Allendale Campus. Grand Valley’s 3,800 first-year students are invited to join the campus community to hear President Haas welcome them to campus.

Faculty will process in their academic regalia as the ceremony begins and President Haas, Provost Gayle Davis, Faculty Senate Chair Figen Mekik and Student Senate President Natalie Cleary will give remarks. Grand Valley student Caitlin Cusack will sing 'Defying Gravity' from the musical Wicked.
 
Before Convocation, President Haas will give an Opening Address to faculty and staff at 10 a.m. in the Louis Armstrong Theatre in the Performing Arts Center. Convocation will follow at 11:30 a.m. The all-campus picnic lunch for students, faculty and staff will be served from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in parking lot C, adjacent to the Fieldhouse.
