MAREC lunch series focuses on agriculture

The next Grand Valley State University Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC) Lunch and Learn Series will focus on sustainable agriculture practices. The guest speaker will be Dale Mutch, senior district extension educator at Michigan State University’s W.K. Kellogg Biological Station.

The program takes place Monday, October 4, at noon at MAREC, 200 Viridian Dr. in Muskegon. The event is free and open the public.

The monthly Lunch and Learn Series, which began in July, is a first for MAREC. The goal of the program is to provide an educational opportunity for those interested in learning more about sustainable living practices.

The November program will feature a representative from Haworth’s Zero Landfill Waste Program and in December a representative from West Michigan Regional Kitchen Incubators.

While the series will conclude in December, Kim Walton, MAREC education coordinator and creator of the series, said she is in the process of planning another learning program that will begin in January 2011.

For more information about the series, contact Walton at (616) 331-6907 or visit www.gvsu.edu/marec.

MAREC opened in 2003 with a mission to serve as a catalyst for economic development, a business accelerator and center for research, development and commercialization of alternative and renewable energy technologies.
