GVSU rowers return to Henley

Grand Valley State University rowers are returning to England to row in the prestigious Royal Henley and Henley Women's Regattas at Henley-on-Thames, England -- two of the most prestigious events in the rowing world.

“Both the men and women have worked extremely hard all year for the opportunity to compete in this historic regatta,” said coach John Bancheri. “Both teams have looked impressive in practice which should make for an unforgettable trip and racing experience.”

This year, the Laker team won its third American Collegiate Rowing Association team points trophy in a row.

The 14 members of the women's rowing team depart for England on June 12, followed on June 21 by 15 members of the men's rowing team.

Participating women include Lindsay Marshall of Brownstown, Lauren Adlof of Canton, Lauren Holben of Lansing, Tamara Hillman of Gregory, Dayna Campbell of Beverly Hills, Leslie Mayville of Rochester Hills, Laura Marshall of Livonia, Sam Morgan of Clarkson, Kelsey Arnold of Hudsonville, Alex Vander Ark of Byron Center, Kendra Socks of Rochester Hills, Katie Phelan of Jackson, Hannah Brinza of Novi and Aly Mendels of Grand Haven.

After racing at the Henley Women's Regatta the women will have the opportunity to tour the country until they compete again in the Reading Town Regatta. The men’s team will also will compete in the Reading Town Regatta as well. The men will race from July 1-4 for the Temple Challenge Cup and the Prince Albert Challenge Cup.

Participating men’s rowers include Mike Stoll of Jenison, Mark Mcilduff of Flint, Geoff Sadek of Grand Rapids, Breck Davis of Portage, Jeff Slater of Cedarville, Jimmy Wilkie of Detroit, Marco Benedetti of Columbus, Ohio, Scott Feil of Chicago, Hallie Dorsey of Ann Arbor, Tucker Anderson of Rockford, Zak Armstrong of Lawton, Aaron Gesquiere of Rochester Hills and Chad Condon of East Grand Rapids.
