Writers Series will include alumna

Two writers will be featured at the next GVSU Writers Series on Tuesday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Alumni House.

A reading will be given by Sandi Wisenberg, author of a short story collection, The Sweetheart is In , and an essay collection, Holocaust Girls: History, Memory & Other Obsessions . This month the University of Iowa Press will publish her nonfiction book, The Adventures of Cancer Bitch , based on her Cancer Bitch blog.

Wisenberg is the co-director of the MA/MFA Creative Writing program at Northwestern University also teaches at the University of Chicago Graham School of General Studies. She earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern, and an MFA in fiction from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop.

The author has won a Pushcart Prize and has been the recipient of grants and awards from the Illinois Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown.

Also reading will be Grand Valley alumna Amanda Mitchell Gebhardt, who is now in the graduate program at Northwestern University.
