Women's Commission seeks chair

The GVSU Women's Commission is seeking to fill the position of chairperson (or chairpersons) for the 2009-2010 academic year. This is an opportunity to work with others in the university community who care about gender equity by developing programs and policies that improve the quality of life for women on campus.

The mission of the Grand Valley State University Women's Commission, formed in 1996, is to advocate for all women on campus by acting on their issues and by promoting equity and social justice, ever conscious of the intersection of race, class, gender, and orientation.

The Women’s Commission has worked on such projects as working with Human Resources and the AP Development Committee to open the Excellence Series to all employee groups on campus; creating the Fireside Chat program, in co-sponsorship with Positive Black Women (PBW), to further campus climate change through conversation among a diverse group of women and men; and forming subcommittees to work on issues that impact the quality of life at GVSU including the recently created flexible scheduling group.

Interested applicants can send a brief statement of interest to the Women’s Center at [email protected] by Monday, July 20, 2009.  If you aren’t interested but know women that would be excellent in this role, please share it with them!

Questions about the Women’s Commission or the role of the chairperson can be directed to Marlene Kowalski-Braun at [email protected] or by phone at (616) 331-2748.
