WGVU program manager to retire

After nearly 30 years at WGVU, Carrie Corbin has decided to retire. A reception will be held Thursday, December 17, from 3-5 p.m. in the WGVU television studios inside the Meijer Public Broadcast Center at the Eberhard Center. Corbin’s last day is December 23.

“Carrie has been a valuable member of WGVU Public Broadcasting for 30 years,” said Michael T. Walenta, WGVU general manager. “We all appreciate her dedication to our station and wish her an enjoyable retirement.”

Corbin started at WGVU in 1980 as director of Educational Services. In 1982 she became assistant program manager and was named program manager in 1990. “I have long believed public television is for everyone,” said Corbin. “It has been my privilege to have the opportunity to schedule programs with broad appeal throughout my almost 20 years as program manager.”

As program manager, Corbin expanded children’s programming offered by the station and was an advocate of the locally produced series Family Health Matters. She has served as chair of the Michigan  Programmers’ Group and was elected to the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Public Television Programmers’ Association.

In 2005, Corbin was inducted into the Silver Circle by the Michigan Chapter of The National Academy of Arts and Sciences.
