Series of workshops in Holland focus on preventing domestic violence

HOLLAND, Mich. — The Women's Center at Grand Valley State University has partnered with the Lakeshore Alliance Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and other agencies to host a series of professional development workshops on preventing dating and domestic violence.

The workshops are free of charge and open to the public. Scheduled in October and November, the sessions will be held from noon-1:30 p.m. at Grand Valley’s Meijer Holland Campus, 515 S. Waverly Road.

• Thursday, October 8: “Preventing Dating Violence” will be presented by Lesley Coghill, social worker for the Center for Women in Transition.

• Tuesday, November 17: “Mean Girls and Real Boys” will be presented by the MSU Extension team who will discuss bullying through the lens of gender and other differences.

A certificate of completion will be available for those who need professional development credits; CEUs for social workers will be available for a $15 fee. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunches; beverages and cookies will be provided.

The workshop series corresponds with LAADSV’s mission statement, which is to prevent and reduce domestic and sexual violence and to promote safety for victims and their families. The series is co-sponsored by Grand Valley’s Continuing Education Department, and the Ottawa County Delta Project.
