The stories can be funny, touching, poignant or historical. As part
of Grand Valley's 50th anniversary celebration, students, faculty and
staff, alumni and retirees are invited to share their Grand Valley
memories and become part of Laker Lore.
Individuals or groups of friends can record a story with
sessions taking less than 10 minutes. Stories may be about fun times
shared with friends, roommates or colleagues; participation in a
campus activity; or memories of an outstanding student or professor.
"Spoken history is as powerful as written history,"
said Teri Losey, chair of the Laker Lore committee. "These
stories will not only help tell the story of Grand Valley's first 50
years, but be a lasting record for those who follow in our footsteps."
Several dates and times in October and November have been
reserved to record stories, beginning October 13. Sessions are being
held on the Allendale, Grand Rapids and Holland campuses, as well as
at the Eberhard Center, the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences and
the Lake Michigan Center in Muskegon. Dates are forthcoming for
Traverse City. Participation is easy:
• Listen to the sample
stories on the Laker Lore Web site
• Think of a 1 or 2 minute
Grand Valley story to tell
• Register for a personal recording
time
• Arrive on time for recording
To schedule a
time to record, visit www.gvsu.edu/lakerlore or
stop by one of the scheduled open sessions listed at the site.
Selected stories will be aired on WGVU radio during the anniversary
year of 2010/11 and available to listen to on the anniversary Web
site. All stories will become a part of the university's archives.
