GVSU remembers George Potter

Grand Valley State University will pay tribute to one of its earliest administrators, George Potter, in a memorial service.

Potter, who served as vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty from 1962-68, died October 31 in California. His memorial is scheduled for Sunday, November 15 at 3 p.m. in Room 2270, Kirkhof Center.

Potter was born in England and earned a social science degree at Stanford Hall, Loughborough and a master's degree in politics, philosophy and economics at Oriel College, Oxford. He also earned an Ed.D. degree from the Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara. After leaving Grand Valley, Potter was the founding president of Ramapo College in New Jersey, a role he held until 1984. After retiring, he continued teaching in Ramapo's School of Administration and Business.
