Grand Valley reduces its impact on Grand River

Grand Valley State University is continuing its efforts to reduce its impact on the Grand River.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, the university has installed green roofs on four buildings. Grand Valley is also scheduled to install green roofs on two more buildings in the spring of 2010. These installations are part of an ongoing effort by the university to improve its approach to managing storm water.

Grand Valley green roof statistics:
• 33,800 square feet of green roof has been completed and 2,500 square feet are proposed on projects under construction
• Kennedy Hall of Engineering: 20,000 square feet of green roof
• Niemeyer Living Center: 4,200 square feet of green roof
• Annis Water Resources Institute Boat Storage building: 3,000 square feet of green roof
• Mackinac Hall: 5,900 square feet of green roof on 2nd floor roof and 700 SF green roof on the east entrance lobby roof - 6,600 SF total
• Housing 2010 planned at 1,200 square feet scheduled to be installed in spring of 2010
• Learning/Dining 2010 planned at 1,300 square feet scheduled to be installed in spring of 2010.
