AWRI examines Spring Lake shoreline

Researchers from the Annis Water Resources Institute (AWRI) spent some time floating around Spring Lake and are now analyzing data collected from the shoreline.

Research scientists are seeking to identify specific locations around the lake that are contributing stormwater runoff. AWRI was awarded funding by the Grand Haven Community Foundation for the work, which is part of AWRI’s ongoing Rein in the Runoff stormwater project.

Rein in the Runoff is a project funded by Michigan Sea Grant that works with community leaders and residents of Spring Lake Township, the Village of Spring Lake, and the City of Ferrysburg to minimize the adverse impacts of stormwater discharges to Spring Lake, the Grand River, and ultimately Lake Michigan.

AWRI is processing the data and will generate a detailed shoreline map for use by planning and zoning officials, elected officials, homeowners and others along the lakeshore to make more informed decisions about the use and management of waterfront lands.

For more information, contact Al Steinman, AWRI director; or Elaine Sterrett, AWRI project manager for Rein in the Runoff at (616) 331-3749.
