WDIV to air interview Grand Valley students

A documentary about stem cell research produced by Grand Valley State University students is receiving wide exposure, including an interview with the students to air October 22 at 4 p.m., on WDIV-TV, the NBC affiliate in Detroit.

Matt Nickels and Josh Beagle co-produced the 15-minute documentary, "Uncovering Potential, Discovering Controversy," last year as students in Grand Valley's School of Communications. Each has a father who suffers from an illness that embryonic stem cell research could hope to cure, and they have opposing views on such research.

The video features both fathers, Dr. Sean Morrison, director of stem cell research at University of Michigan, and Laura Jackson, a Livonia resident who is a quadriplegic as a result of a cheerleading accident. The issue is addressed informatively, emotionally and shows both sides of the issue.
