Walking Works winners announced

Faculty and staff members who participated in the Walking Works pedometer challenge collectively traveled more than 81,330 miles.

The winning team for Category 1 was “To Protect and Clean Dream Team” of Kari Balcom, Dan Lopez, Lisa Morningstar and Laurie Silliman. In Category 2, the winning team was “Campus Dining in Action”: Tammie Luce, Barb Buchanan, Nancy Haskin and Terry Bailey.

The 12-week challenge was sponsored by the Health and Wellness department. It ended on December 5; participants recorded their daily step count online.

The Protect and Clean team traveled more than 5 million steps, or 2,608 miles. Campus Dining in Action traveled more than 6.5 million steps, or 3,334 miles.

Both teams won three group training sessions led by an exercise instructor from Campus Recreation.

Second place teams (from both categories) were “Jerry’s Angels” (Aaron Albrecht, Angie Munford, Tami John and Jerry Montag) and “Get ’Er Done” (Christopher Jefferies, Ken Haskin, Mark Rousseau and Jeff Marcinkowski). Both teams received Climbing Center passes.

Third place teams were “Step It Up” (Lynnea MacGeorge, Joy Flanders, Barbara Helms and Sandra Jennings) and “It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere” (Kellie Knight, Susan Kraus, Cheryl Borgman and Amanda Brower). They received Gazelle Sports gift cards.
