Pioneer psychology professor dies

Herbert Weldon Frase, age 89, of Venice, Florida, died on February 18. A Grand Valley pioneer faculty member, Frase was hired in May 1962 as a professor of psychology. He retired from the university in May 1984 and was granted emeritus status.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 15, 1918, Frase was a WWII Army veteran and a member of the Lions Club in Allendale. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin, a master's from Northwestern University and a doctorate from Michigan State University. After retirement he moved to Florida.

Surviving family members include his daughter Linda (Robert) Meyer of Windermere, Fla.; grandson Mark Meyer of Windermere; granddaughter Katie (David) Dent of Cincinnati, Ohio; great granddaughter Madison Kent; and sister Jean Emory of Evansville, Ind. A posting on the Farley Funeral Home, in Venice, Fla. suggested memorial donations be made to a local Hospice organization.
