Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was indicted on several felonies,
including conspiracy to obstruct justice, perjury and misconduct in
office. Peter A. Letzmann, an adjunct professor at Grand Valley State
University, can provide legal perspective on the matter.
Letzmann served as city attorney of Troy, Michigan for 17 years. He was
responsible for all of the city's legal matters. He also has been a
deputy city attorney for the city of Pontiac and an assistant
corporation counsel for the city of Detroit. He is the Michigan chair of
the International Municipal Lawyers Associations, past president of the
Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys, the past chair of the
Michigan Municipal League's defense fund and member of other organizations.
Letzmann teaches law-related graduate courses in Grand Valley’s School
