Kapell Trio returns to Grand Valley

The Kapell Trio began its musical journey together when violinist Stephen Shipps and pianist Stephen Swedish asked Grand Valley State University cellist Pablo Mahave-Veglia to join them in their debut recital at Grand Valley in 2007. They return to perform in the Guest Artist Series on Thursday, January 31.

Their performance is from 8-10 p.m. in the Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center, Allendale Campus. Free admission.

Shipps, a member of the University of Michigan faculty, is a former member of the Meadowmount and Amadeus trios. He has appeared as soloist with the symphony orchestras of Indianapolis, Dallas, Omaha, Seattle, and Ann Arbor.

Swedish has built an international reputation as an outstanding solo performer and a world-class collaborator and chamber music player. Mahave-Veglia is an assistant professor of music at Grand Valley who has performed worldwide. In the past year alone he has appeared as soloist with the Holland, Michigan Symphony, performed at the Bang on A Can Marathon in New York City and toured widely with a solo program of Bach Cello Suites using original instruments.
