International trumpet artists to perform and teach at Grand Valley

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State University International Trumpet Seminar will bring artists from China, Germany, the Netherlands, Turkey and the U.S. to the Allendale Campus, July 20-27. Seven evening concerts featuring faculty and guest artists are open to the general public with a nominal admission of $5-10. A complete schedule is listed below.

The goal of the seminar, now in its fourth year, is to expose students to different playing and teaching styles of some of the most outstanding artists on the trumpet. An intense week of learning includes daily master classes, rehearsals and recitals.

Richard Stoelzel, Grand Valley associate professor of music, is founder and artistic director of the seminar. Under his guidance it has grown from 12 students to more than 50, and the undergraduate program at Grand Valley has become one of the top in the country. In 2006 and 2008 the GVSU Trumpet Ensemble won first prize at the National Trumpet Competition.
