Grand Valley State University President Thomas Haas has been elected
as the chair of the Presidents Council, State Universities of
Michigan. The council serves as a forum for the presidents and
chancellors of Michigan's 15 public universities to discuss and frame
positions on key higher education finance and policy issues.
Based in Lansing, the primary mission of the Presidents Council is
to advocate higher education as a public good and to promote its
collective value in serving the public interest and the State of Michigan.
“In Michigan’s challenging economic times, Presidents Council’s
mission of articulating how our 15 public universities serve the
public good through educational, social, and economic development is
more important than ever before,” Haas said.
Haas begins his two-year term on July 1. He follows Oakland
University President Gary Russi in the post. For more information
