ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State University Writers Series
brings fiction writer Peter Ho Davies to campus.
Davies, who is on the writing faculty of the MFA Program in Creative
Writing at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, is the author of the
novel "The Welsh Girl" and the story collections "The
Ugliest House in the World" and "Equal Love."
He will give a reading and discuss his work on Tuesday, September 30, at
6:30 p.m. in the Alumni House on the Allendale Campus. The event is free
and open to the public. Davies’ work has appeared in Harpers, The
Atlantic Monthly, and The Paris Review, among others, and his short
fiction has been widely anthologized, including selections for Prize
Stories: The O. Henry Awards 1998 and Best American Short Stories in
1995, 1996 and 2001.
In 2003 Granta magazine named him among its 20 Best of Young British
Novelists. Davies is also recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim
Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Fine Arts Work
Center in Provincetown.
Born in Britain in 1966 to Welsh and Chinese parents, Davies now makes
his home in the U.S. He previously taught at the University of Oregon
and Emory University.
