Students, faculty and staff members from Grand Valley State University
will participate in a mock disaster Saturday, September 13, led by the
Region 6 Bio-Defense Network Coalition.
The drill will take place at Grand Valley’s Cook-DeVos Center for Health
Sciences, 301 Michigan St. NE, and will center on how emergency
personnel handle the needs of special populations and the disabled
during a disaster.
Mark Gillette, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, said
Grand Valley nursing and health communications students participate and
help interview “patients” and assess their needs. The drill will use
rooms at CHS as overflow from hospitals and test the registration system
at Spectrum Health.
The drill is expected to begin at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. For more
information, contact the Region 6 Network at (616) 451-8438.
