Several campus departments are sponsoring a film series that
investigates racial and socioeconomic inequities in health care.
"UnNatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?" a seven-part
documentary produced by California Newsreel that aired on PBS.
Filmmakers explored how the social conditions in which Americans are
born, live and work affect health and longevity, even more than medical
care, behaviors and genes.
The series begins on Thursday, October 23, at noon in the Kirkhof
Center, room 2201, with “In Sickness and In Wealth.” The series will
continue each Thursday through December 11 at the same time and
location. Faculty and staff members will lead discussion following the
film. Participants do not need to attend the entire series.
The series is sponsored by Grand Valley’s College of Interdisciplinary
Studies, Career and Counseling Center, and Health and Wellness. For more
information about the series, call Sue Sloop at x12215; for information
