Anti-smoking policy committee appointed

President Thomas J. Haas has appointed a special committee to review the university's anti-smoking policy a decade after it was developed.

Grand Valley was one of the first universities to go smoke-free when it banned smoking in university buildings 10 years ago.

"I've asked the special committee to look at the university policy to see if it needs revising," said Haas. "It seems to me that this is a good time for review."

The special committee will be chaired by Vice Provost and Dean of Students Bart Merkle and Associate Vice President for Human Resources Scott Richardson.

Other committee members will include faculty, staff and students, and their appointments will be announced soon.
