Volunteer Center holds Service and Advocacy week

The Community Service Learning Center is sponsoring Service and Advocacy week from January 22-25.

This annual event provides an opportunity for students to learn how they can get involved on and off campus in volunteer opportunities. For more informatin, contact the Community Service Learning Center at 331-2468 or at [email protected].

The week's events include:

Monday

  • Disabilities Awareness & Emergency Weather Assistance Program Training
    Learn about the challenges that students with disabilities may face on the GVSU campus and become a trained assistant by the Organization for the Advancement of Students with Disabilities, 7-9 p.m., Grand River Room, Kirkhof Center

Tuesday

  • Community Service Learning Center open house
    Stop by for free refreshments and information about our services to GVSU, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 110B Kirkhof Center
  • American Red Cross Disaster Relief Training
    Become certified; attend the Fulfilling the Mission training (for those who missed Class I - Intro to Disaster Relief), 6-9 p.m., 215/216 Kirkhof Center

Wednesday

  • Community Partner Showcase
    Visit one of several community agencies whose focus are mentoring and tutoring program in the community, 1-3 p.m., Kirkhof Center Lobby

Thursday

  • Dance Marathon-It's for the kids-Information Table
    Purchase a Children's Miracle Network Balloon for $1 to help save a kids life and receive information about one of the largest fundraisers for sick children in the U.S., 10 a.m-4:30 p.m., Kirkhof Center Lobby
  • Service & Advocacy Org. Meeting
    Representatives from all of the Service & Advocacy Organizations are welcome to discuss upcoming programs, volunteer and advocacy opportunities, and other pertinent issues pertaining to their mission, 6-8 p.m., 250C Kirkhof Center
  • Poster Displays, 9 a.m-5 p.m., Kirkhof Center Lobby
  • Community Service Learning Center Information Table
    Nominate GVSU Mentors in your life who have made a difference (students, faculty, staff). Each mentor nominated will be recognized by the First Gentlemen of Michigan Dan Mulhern, 11-2 p.m., Kirkhof Center Lobby
