GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The 21st annual President's Ball will be hosted by Grand Valley State University President Thomas J. Haas and Student Senate President Frank Foster on February 9. The theme of this year's event is "An Evening in EspaƱa."
The ball will be at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids. The night will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour, the dinner and recognition ceremony will start at 6:30 p.m., and the dance portion of the evening will commence at 9:00 p.m.
The purpose of this event is to commemorate the accomplishments of these two individuals while also uniting the GVSU community to celebrate academic and civic excellence.
Various forms of Spanish entertainment will be held throughout the night in an environment that mimics an authentic Spanish bistro. An array of specialty coffee beverages and desserts will be served.
Receiving this year's Distinguished Individual of the Year Award will be Kenneth Fridsma of Financial Aid. The 2007 Student Award for Faculty Excellence (SAFE) will also be distributed along with the first annual President's Appreciation Award. Both recipients will be kept a surprise until the beginning of the program.
Tickets are available for purchase at the 20/20 Information Desk and the Student Services Office both on the Allendale and Pew campuses. Tickets including the dinner and dance will be sold in advance $20 each. Students attending the dance only will need to purchase a ticket for $5 in advance or at the door.
The Rapid will provide free transportation from both the Allendale and Pew campuses to DeVos Place. The final bus from DeVos Place will depart at 2 a.m.
