New bus route added on Allendale Campus

In an effort to alleviate congestion on off-campus routes, a new bus route began September 24 on the Allendale Campus. Ridership on off-campus routes is up by nearly 1,600 students compared to this time last year.

“We need to respond to the needs of our students,” said Erin Babson, operations manager for Pew Campus & Regional Centers. “We have been monitoring ridership since classes began and the first few weeks can be hard to predict.”

The new bus route will help alleviate the congestion on the Off-Campus Apartment Shuttle (Route 37). This bus will continue to leave from the Kirkhof Center and head west on West Campus Drive to continue the south half of the 37 route. The 37 route will continue and will remain unchanged.

New route details:
• Route 48
• South Campus Express
• Begins Monday, September 24, 2007
• Times: 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Fridays
• Runs approximately every 7-8 minutes

The bus will begin at Kirkhof and head north on Campus Drive. It will turn left on West Campus Drive (it will not go to Mackinac). The bus will continue straight through the light at 48th to the Campus West/Meadows Crossing stop. It will then return to a right on 48th Avenue to hit Hillcrest, CountryPlace, Copper Beech, and Campus View apartments.
