Provost Gayle R. Davis announced that Jean Nagelkerk, assistant vice
president for academic affairs, has been named Grand Valley’s interim
vice provost for health.
She replaces Doug Kindschi; her new duties will start immediately and
continue until June 30, 2008.
Davis said the vice provost for health is an important role,
particularly as Grand Valley develops its relationships with Michigan
State University’s medical school and strengthens its ties to other
institutions in the health care and research community in West Michigan.
“Jean will serve as a prominent university voice in this arena,” Davis
said. “She will also work collaboratively with the deans of Health
Professions and Nursing who will continue their involvement with the
community and state in areas relating to the specific disciplinary
expertise in their respective colleges.”
Nagelkerk has served on the Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research
Center operational board for the past year, continuing her rich
engagement with the local and national health care community. She is
also a professor of nursing.
Her previous responsibilities will be divided among other assistant vice
presidents in the Provost’s Office.
