Master kora player to perform at Grand Valley

A West African musician and oral historian from The Gambia will perform at Grand Valley State University. This event is free and open to the public on Saturday, April 14, at 8 p.m. in the Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center, Allendale Campus.

Performer Alhaji Papa Susso hails from a long line of griots, the traditional oral historians of the Mandinka people. A Master kora player, Susso has been playing the African harp-lute since the age of five, when he was taught by his father. Susso’s ensemble includes singer/dancer Adjaratou Tapa Demba and balafonist Bala Kouyate.
