A specialist in the history and culture of the Caribbean will speak at the next Remembering the Crossings event at Grand Valley State University.
Laurent Dubois, who teaches history at Michigan State University, will speak on Wednesday, February 28, at 7 p.m. in the GVSU Grand River Room, Kirkhof Center, Allendale Campus. His presentation "The Revolutionary Abolitionist of Haiti," is free and open to the public.
Dubois is the author of several books including, Avengers of the New World: The Story of the Haitian Revolution, which was chosen as a Best Book of 2004 by the Los Angeles Times and a Notable Book of 2004 by the Christian Science Monitor.
The lecture is presented as part of Remembering the Crossings, a series of events throughout the year to promote awareness of 2007 as the bicentennial of the abolition of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
