Johnson Center hosts leadership conference

The Dorothy A. Johnson Center of Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership at Grand Valley State University will host a leadership conference for nonprofit board members and executives.

“Governing Nonprofits for Success — Advance Your Mission with a Dynamic Board/CEO Partnership” will be held Friday, September 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Loosemore Auditorium, on Grand Valley’s Pew Grand Rapids Campus, 401 West Fulton St.

The keynote speaker, Carol Weisman, is the founder and president of Board Builders and is an internationally recognized expert on philanthropy, fundraising, and nonprofit governance. Weisman is also a former stand up comedian; her keynote and breakout sessions promise to be both informative and entertaining. She will address two topics of great interest to both staff and board members: fundraising and the relationships within an organization’s leadership.

Additional breakout sessions will address board member roles and responsibilities, financial statements, the fund development plan, marketing, and effective committee structure. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend two breakout sessions to network with peers during lunch. CEOs are encouraged to bring board members to the conference.

Registration is limited and open through August 31, 2007. The conference fee is $55 for the first registrant from an organization, $50 for each subsequent registrant from that organization. Support for Governing Nonprofits for Success comes from The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation. Additional sponsorship is provided by Clark Hill, PLC and AJ Veneklasen, Inc.
