GVSU community pitches in to help new students move to campus

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Hundreds of Grand Valley State University faculty and staff members and student groups will lend a hand to new students this week by helping them move into their campus residences.

Helping during Freshman Move-In is a GVSU tradition, with volunteers carrying luggage, computers and other belongings beginning Tuesday through Thursday. Freshman housing is located at the north end of campus in the residence halls surrounding Kleiner Commons; move-in is scheduled each day from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Media coverage is welcome.

Special volunteer highlights include the following:
-- About 70 alumni members will volunteer on Tuesday, August 21, during morning and afternoon shifts.

-- President Thomas J. Haas will volunteer on Wednesday, August 22, from noon-4 p.m.

-- Football coach Chuck Martin and the Laker team will volunteer on Thursday, August 23, from 10 a.m.-noon.
