Girl Scouts will get hands-on look at nursing as profession

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Nearly 40 area Girl Scouts will explore the field of nursing during a half-day of labs, tours and hands-on work at Grand Valley State University.

Their guides for the day are nursing students and faculty members from GVSU's Kirkhof College of Nursing. The event is scheduled from 8:45 a.m.-noon on Saturday, January 13, at the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences, 301 Michigan St. NE. Media coverage is welcome. The group will be in labs on the third floor of the building (rooms 307, 309 and 315).

Ron Perkins, learning resource center coordinator at KCON, said the scouts are ages 10-14. He said students will guide the scouts through several activities including simulation demonstrations, assessing equipment and a history of nursing.

The Grand Valley students who helped organize the event belong to the Student Nurses Association.
