Friend of Grand Valley State University, Dan Gerber, will give a poetry
reading on Wednesday, September 19 at 7 p.m., at Schuler Books, 28th
St., Grand Rapids, in celebration of his newest book, A
Primer on Parallel Lives
.
Gerber served as a writer-in-residence at Grand Valley and Michigan
State, read, taught and lectured at numerous universities, museums and
libraries, and has traveled as a journalist throughout Asia and the
former Soviet Union.
The author of 12 books of poetry, fiction, and prose, Gerber's work has
appeared in many national magazines, including The New Yorker, Playboy,
Poetry, and Sports Illustrated. He has earned the Mark Twain Award and
his sixth collection of poetry, Trying to Catch the Horses, was the
winner of ForeWord magazine's Best Book Award in 1999. A longtime
resident of Michigan, Gerber now lives with his wife Debbie in Santa
Ynez, California.
