Former soldier to discuss Iraq

Family members and friends of soldiers who are serving in Iraq can learn more about the country and its culture from someone who has been there.

Stephen Mendoza will present “The Iraq War: A Voice from the Ground” on Tuesday, February 20, from noon-1:30 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, rooms 215/216. The brown bag lunch is sponsored by Work Life Connections

Mendoza, who served three nine-month tours with the Army in Iraq, is the brother of Susan Mendoza-Jones, director of Integrative Learning. Mendoza-Jones said the presentation grew from a discussion with a colleague who also has family serving overseas.

“Some people don’t know anything about the area,” she said. “He’ll be able to give contextual information about the culture and the region.”

While open to the campus community, the presentation is geared toward returning student veterans and those with family members overseas.
