Linda Chamberlain, Ph.D. has been named interim director of the West
Michigan Science & Technology Initiative. She is taking on that role
after current WMSTI executive director Matt Dugener announced that he
is stepping down to take a position with the Lansing Economic Area
Partnership.
“I am pleased that Linda Chamberlain will be taking the reins as
executive director of WMSTI. Linda's qualifications and experience make
her an excellent choice as interim director,” Dugener said.
Chamberlain will serve as the interim director until a formal search is
conducted for a permanent replacement. “Our intent will be to continue
to implement the strategic plan that was developed at the inception of
WMSTI, which includes the growth of the life science industry in West
Michigan through our core services and strategic initiatives,” said Chamberlain.
Located in Grand Valley State University's Cook-DeVos Center for Health
Sciences, the West Michigan Science & Technology Initiative
dedicates time to helping science and technology entrepreneurs
commercialize their discoveries. “Grand Valley State University is
thrilled with Linda's willingness to step into the interim director
role. This will allow WMSTI to continue to serve the life science
industry with no apparent transition,” said Jim Bachmeier, vice
president of Finance and Administration for Grand Valley State University.
The West Michigan Science and Technology Initiative was formed in 2003
as a partnership between the Right Place, Inc., Van Andel Research
Institute, Grand Valley State University, the City of Grand Rapids and
Grand Rapids Community College. The partnership has recently expanded to
include Spectrum Health, Saint Mary's Health Care, Mary Free Bed
Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Grand Angels.
“Over the past several years I have worked with Linda at the Van Andel
Institute and also through WMSTI. During this interim period Linda's
leadership will continue to support West Michigan as we focus on life
science economic development,” said Jerry Callahan, VAI business
development and chair of the WMSTI advisory board.
