Currently on exhibit at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts Front
Street Gallery is “Mergence and Abundance: Alternating Personalities in
Clay,” by artists Daniel Bare and Valerie Zimany.
Bare is an instructor of ceramics and ceramics technician at Grand
Valley State University and Zimany, his fiancé, currently teaches at
Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Both artists recently
returned to the U.S. after extended residencies in Asia.
The exhibition centers on utilizing the ceramic vessel to challenge
visual perceptions, as well as what defines ceramics as a material and
as a concept.
The exhibit runs through May 11.
