Sonja Johnson, associate director of VAGTC, will act as interim director of the center effective Oct. 27. Johnson is a licensed US Customs Broker with more than 14 years of experience specializing in international logistics and customs compliance issues. She holds a B.S. in International Business and Marketing from Minnesota State University. Her work history includes: working for a global logistics provider as an import manager of a branch office and has also worked for several multinational companies supporting international trade and compliance initiatives setting up global processes to assist in these areas. She joined the trade center in 2003 to provide global trade expertise as a consultant and trainer working with Michigan businesses developing and improving global trade initiatives.
"During the last two years, Sonja has been vital to the service offerings of the VAGTC, and has been involved in every aspect of its value proposition," Meyer said. "Furthermore, her committment to increasing the global competitiveness of Michigan companies is unsurpassed. I have every confidence that Sonja will move the VAGTC in a positive direction during this interim period."
Meyer has been an instrumental leader in promoting the expansion of the global business of companies located in Michigan and surrounding area. He was the founding director of the Van Andel Global Trade Center, creating many new international programs.
"We will miss Jeff and his expertise, and wish him well. He has left the center a strong foundation to build on," Johnson said.
