Hoekstra to speak at GVSU Teach-in

A Grand Valley State University teach-in on the war in Iraq will feature politicians, veterans and public discussions, including U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra, R-Holland, chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Democratic congressional candidate Kimon Kotos.

The three-day event, October 17-19, was organized by Grand Valley history students to provide a forum for better understanding of the war and its implications. A series of discussions, which are free and open to the public, will contemplate the past causes, present costs and future legacies of the war.

Hoekstra will speak on Tuesday, October 17, from 2-3 p.m., in the Grand River Room of Kirkhof Center during the "History and Context" segment that begins at 1 p.m.

Kotos and a panel discussion by Iraq war veterans will focus on "The Iraq War and Domestic Institutions" on Wednesday, October 18, from 6-10 p.m., in Loutit Auditorium, Henry Hall.

Thursday, October 19, will feature faculty presentations under the theme of "Legacies."
