Haas, Guevara highlight Welcome Reception

The annual Women's Welcome Reception, hosted by the Women's Commission and other campus departments, is set for Wednesday, September 20, in the Kirkhof Center, room 204.

President Thomas J. Haas will make brief remarks. The keynote address is by Julia A. Guevara, accreditation and assessment officer and professor of social work. She will discuss the upcoming Michigan Civil Rights Initiative and how, if it passes, it would affect women.

The doors will open at 11:45 a.m. and the program will start at 12:15 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The reception is co-sponsored by Office of Planning and Equity, Positive Black Women, Women's Center, and Women and Gender Studies.

Also on September 20, 11 Grand Valley artists and their artwork will be celebrated at the annual Womens Center Artist Reception, scheduled at 1:30 p.m.in the Kirkhof Center, room 161. The artists are Elise Venia, Aneka Vanderhill, Brena Merkle, Valerie Peterson, Jenn Schaub, Debbie Morrow, Amanda Dinkel, Mary Lamson-Burke, Paula Rubingh, Sara VanOtterloo and Hakondo Sibalwa.
